How to evaluate any trading academy in India

Four questions. Four dealbreakers. A scorecard. Apply to every academy in your shortlist — including this one.

Four questions

1 · The advisory line

What does the academy explicitly NOT do?

Good

No buy/sell calls on specific securities. No live signals. No accuracy or return claims. Not a SEBI-registered IA or RA, and clear about it.

Red flag

A Telegram channel link. "We help you find the next big winner." Vague "SEBI-compliant" without specifics.

2 · Performance claims

Do they claim a percentage anywhere — accuracy, win rate, returns?

Good

No accuracy stats. No return projections. No "track record" on educational content.

Red flag

"95% accurate." "Students earn X% per month." "Our system has delivered Y%."

3 · Tutor channel scope

When a student asks "should I buy X right now?" what does the tutor say?

Good

Politely declines. Redirects to methodology, or to a SEBI-registered IA/RA for the trade decision.

Red flag

"I think you should..." Specific price targets. Premium tier that unlocks more direct advice.

4 · Time horizon

How long do they say it takes?

Good

Months for foundation. 18 months+ for full curriculum. Quick monetisation isn't the goal.

Red flag

"Profitable trader in 30 days." "Recover your fee in your first month." Income-screenshot marketing.

Four dealbreakers — any one means walk away

1. Buy/sell calls on named securities in public marketing ("BUY NIFTY at 24,500", "RELIANCE breakout to 2,800").
2. Return guarantees or specific accuracy percentages ("95% accurate", "₹X per month guaranteed").
3. No grievance path beyond a single support email.
4. Marketing language hostile to the SEBI framework ("SEBI doesn't understand traders", "we work around the regulation").

Scorecard

Tick what the academy answered well. Print it. Apply it to every shortlist candidate.
